Keistimewaan yang dapat dilihat sejak dahulu adalah bahawa rakyat Johor ibarat seperti sebuah keluarga besar kepada keluarga diraja. Keluarga Diraja Johor sejak dahulu tidak gemar sikap melepas tangan akan tugas dan tanggungjawab kepada rakyat malah sebolehnya mahu memberi sentuhan peribadi di mana sahaja. Keberangkatan DYMM Tuanku serta seluruh Keluarga Diraja Johor menjenguk rakyat di seluruh pelusuk negeri secara spontan amat terkesan di hati rakyat.
Disebalik kedudukan baginda Tuanku dan Keluarga Diraja Johor sebagai sebuah institusi tertinggi dalam negeri, terselindung sebuah kehidupan biasa seperti insan biasa yang lain. Walaupun terlatih sebagai seorang komando yang berdisiplin tinggi, di sudut lain baginda Tuanku memiliki kemahiran memasak. Selain memasak untuk keluarga di masa lapang, baginda juga secara spontan memasak untuk mangsa-mangsa banjir di mukim Gemereh daerah Segamat.
DYMM Raja Zarith Sofiah Permaisuri Johor yang amat berbakat dalam seni lukisan telah menyumbangkan karya berjudul ‘Terima Kasih’ atas komitmen petugas-petugas barisan hadapan di semua klinik dan hospital di seluruh Johor. Tidak kurangnya DYAM Mejar Jeneral Tunku Ismail Tunku Mahkota Johor secara spontan turut bersama anak-anak yatim bermain bola sepak secara berkaki ayam. Baginda yang sudah biasa mengikuti ayahanda sejak kecil tidak berasa kekok malah selesa bergaul dengan rakyat dengan cara yang sederhana.
DYMM Sultan Ibrahim juga sering melawat kampung-kampung dan baginda lebih selesa bersua terus dengan penghulu atau ketua kampung serta penduduk setempat untuk bersembang santai. Baginda gemar bersarapan pagi bersama penduduk kampung secara santai di awal pagi. Sikap mesra namun tegas terutama hal melibatkan kesejahteraan rakyat sudah dikenali pelbagai lapisan rakyat Johor sejak berzaman lagi.
Hari Rabu setiap minggu pula telah Tuanku dan Tunku Mahkota Johor jadikan masa untuk menerima mengadap Menteri Besar dan Setiausaha Kerajaan bermesyuarat dan bermuafakat dalam perkembangan pembangunan rakyat dan negeri Johor. Walaupun tidak semua perkara dapat dilihat oleh mata kasar rakyat, namun fikiran dan luahan baginda terhadap perkembangan rakyat dan negeri masih kedengaran disebalik tembok Istana.
Segala progres pembangunan dan perancangan DYMM Tuanku serta keluarga untuk masa hadapan negeri Johor tidak pernah ada titik noktahnya. Walaupun berdiri sebagai seorang Raja Pemerintah, baginda dengan rendah diri mengumpamakan diri baginda sebagai ‘hamba kepada rakyat’ dimana khidmat baginda serta keluarga diraja adalah istimewa demi rakyat Johor. A uniqueness that could be seen for many years is that Johor rakyat are like a big family to the royal family. The Johor Royal Family has always held close the duty and responsibility towards the rakyat and even got personally involved whenever possible. Various visits done by His Majesty and the rest of the Johor Royal Family to see the rakyat in person around the state spontaneously have had a profound effect in the rakyat's hearts.
Behind His Majesty and the Johor Royal Family's position as the highest institution in the state is an ordinary life like regular citizens. Despite being trained as a highly disciplined commando, His Majesty has a cooking skill. Besides cooking for family during free time, His Majesty spontaneously cooked for flood victims in Gemereh, Segamat.
HM Raja Zarith Sofiah, Permaisuri of Johor with a talent in drawing has contributed a 'Thank You' artwork to honour the commitment of frontliners at all clinics and hospitals around Johor. HRH Major General Tunku Ismail. Crown Prince of Johor has also spontaneously played football barefoot with orphans. His Royal Highness, who has followed His Majesty's example from a young age, is always at ease with the rakyat in a moderate manner.
HM Sultan Ibrahim has also frequently visited villages and His Majesty is comfortable meeting with village heads and residents to discuss various matters. His Majesty enjoys having breakfast with villagers spontaneously early in the morning. The friendly but firm attitude in matters related to the rakyat's welfare has been well known among all walks of life in Johor for centuries.
Every Wednesday, His Majesty and HRH Crown Prince of Johor have made it a point to receive in audience the Menteri Besar and the State Secretary to meet and discuss the latest developments for the rakyat and Johor. Although not everything is made known to the public, His Majesty's mindset and priority on the rakyat and state's development could still be heard about outside the Palace.
There is no full stop in every development progress and plan made by His Majesty and the royal family for Johor's future. Despite the status as the Ruler, His Majesty looks at himself as a servant to the rakyat, where His Majesty and the royal family's contributions are specially for the Johor rakyat.
