Kegemilangan negeri Johor dalam pelbagai lapangan diteruskan kesinambungannya ketika pemerintahan Sultan Sir Ismail. Jaringan jalanraya dan jambatan awam meluas dilakasanakan ke seluruh daerah-daerah sejak awal 1900. Ia menelan perbelanjaan besar malah turut mendapat liputan media luar serta memberi manfaat dan galakan pembangunan buat seluruh rakyat Johor.
Dibawah kepimpinan Sultan Sir Ismail, satu acara tahunan sukan permotoran bertaraf antarabangsa julung kalinya telah diadakan dalam Tanah Melayu di negeri Johor sejak tahun 1940 atas pembiayaan penuh Kerajaan Johor.
Negeri Johor terus tampil berbeza atas kemampuannya menganjurkan acara antarabangsa yang disertai pelumba terkenal dari negara luar hingga mendapat jolokan “Monte Carlo Grand Prix of Asia” dan “Malaya’s Finest Grand Prix”. Ia turut disertai sendiri oleh Tunku Iskandar (Sultan Iskandar).
Penganjuran tahunan itu mendapat pujian dari peminat sukan bermotor antarabangsa disebabkan kualiti litar dan pengurusan acaranya. Maklum balas para wartawan dari Eropah yang sudah biasa membuat liputan sukan bermotor berprestij menyifatkan litar dalam bandar pertama di rantau Asia itu lebih menarik dan ‘sporty’.
Kategori motosikal dan kereta dalam kejohanan tersebut bermula dari kapasiti enjin 350cc sehingga 4,500cc ‘Supercharge’ dan paling menarik adalah acara kereta Formula One turut dipertandingkan.
Sebahagian hasil tiket pada penganjuran pertama itu disumbangkan kepada tabung pasca peperangan serta kebajikan dan ia telah mendapat perhatian meluas. Acara tahunan yang berakhir pada tahun 1970an itu tidak pernah kurang dari 50,000 penonton yang hadir dari dalam negeri dan luar negara.
Kejohanan tersebut selain menaikkan nama Johor di mata dunia, berjaya membantu menggerakkan pembangunan, ekonomi dan memberi pulangan besar kepada negeri Johor. Allah Peliharakan Sultan.

Johor continuously achieved glory in various fields during Sultan Sir Ismail's reign. Road networks and public bridges began to be built in various districts from the early 1900s. The improvements incurred huge costs and received international media coverage as well as offered benefits and encouraged development growth for Johor rakyat.
Under Sultan Sir Ismail's leadership, an annual international motorsports event was held for the first time in Johor and Malaya in 1940, fully covered by the Johor government.
Johor stood out from the rest with its ability to organise the international event participated by famous racers from overseas until receiving nicknames of "Monte Carlo Grand Prix of Asia" and "Malaya's Finest Grand Prix". It was also participated by Tunku Iskandar (Sultan Iskandar).
The annual event was highly praised by international motorsports fans due to the circuit's quality and event management. The European media, who were used to covering prestigious motoring events, described the city circuit, the first in Asia, as exciting and sporty.
Motorcycle and car categories at the Grand Prix were from an engine capacity of 350cc to 4,500cc supercharged and interestingly, Formula One races were also part of it.
Part of the ticket sales from the first event was donated to post-war and welfare funds, which attracted wide attention. The annual event was held for the last time in the 1970s, with no fewer than 50,000 spectators coming from inside and outside the country.
Besides helping to put Johor in the world's eyes, the Grand Prix helped facilitate development, grow the economy and yield good returns to Johor. Allah Peliharakan Sultan.
