Istilah Bangsa Johor yang diperkenalkan oleh Sultan Sir Ibrahim sejak awal tahun 1920an menunjukkan cerminan keharmonian kehidupan rakyat Johor. Ia merupakan penambahan nilai kepada konsep ‘Muafakat Itu Berkat’ yang dipupuk sejak pemerintahan Sultan Sir Abu Bakar lebih kurang 60 tahun sebelum itu.
Sejak terbentuknya Kerajaan Johor Moden, Raja pemerintah di negeri ini amat menitikberatkan kemajuan negeri yang berteraskan semangat perpaduan antara kaum. Persatuan-persatuan tidak kira berbentuk keagamaan atau kebudayaan setiap kaum yang ada di negeri Johor ini mendukung teguh Institusi Diraja Johor sebagai paksi perpaduan mereka.
Sebagai ketua agama Islam, DYMM Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Johor mengamalkan sikap terbuka terhadap semua kaum dan agama. Baginda menerima mengadap ketua-ketua agama di Istana Bukit Serene bagi memastikan peranan mereka sebagai ketua agama masing-masing adalah untuk menyatupadukan rakyat dan mengekalkan keharmonian di negeri ini.
DYMM Sultan Johor dan DYAM Tunku Mahkota Pemangku Raja serta Keluarga DiRaja tidak pernah jemu mencemar duli berangkat ke majlis-majlis persatuan kaum Cina, India, Sikh dan lain-lain etnik seperti masyarakat orang Asli. Baginda kerap berangkat secara spontan ke seluruh daerah melihat sendiri kehidupan semua kaum umpama membalas ikrar taat setia semua di negeri Johor terhadap institusi Istana Johor. The Bangsa Johor term, which was introduced by Sultan Sir Ibrahim in the early 1920s, is a reflection of the harmony enjoyed by the Johor rakyat. It is an additional value to the 'Concord Is A Blessing' concept instilled during Sultan Sir Abu Bakar's reign 60 years earlier.
Since the Modern Johor Sultanate was founded, state rulers have always placed emphasis on the state's development being based on multi-racial unity. All associations, regardless of religion or culture of every race in Johor, respect the Johor Royal Institution as the key to their unity.
As the head of Islam, HM Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim practises an open arms approach with all races and religions. His Majesty has always received in audience religious leaders at the Bukit Serene Palace to ensure their respective roles are to unite the rakyat and maintain peace in this state.
HM Sultan of Johor and HRH Tunku Mahkota, Regent of Johor, as well as the Royal Family have never shied away from attending ceremonies organised by the Chinese, Indians, Sikhs and other ethnic groups such as the Orang Asli community. His Majesty has often spontaneously visited various districts to observe the daily lives of all races as a way to repay the loyalty shown by those living in Johor to the Johor Palace institution.
