In a press conference in 23 November 2017, HRH Tunku Mahkota Ismail said: "We need to ensure the Malaysian League is at a high level because this will mean a better National Team as more quality players would be produced."

A similar statement was repeated when His Royal Highness left Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and was installed as MFL chairman following a separation of the two bodies on 25 March 2018.

Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT) too are proud to have played a role in encouraging the increase in the competitiveness of the Malaysian League, and in essence helping the National Team.

JDT have raised the benchmark in Malaysia and indirectly pushed other teams to raise their standards in order to compete with the Southern Tigers. This includes having proper facilities for players to mature, good foreign players, efficient management and a long term plan.
