Getting overly excited while watching football can cause someone to suffer a heart attack. The usage of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) along with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can help save the victim's life. [1/8]

The AED is a device to restore abnormal heartbeat rhythm back to normal. It is because the main cause of death is due to arrhythmia that is called Ventricular Fibrillation.

[2/8]

Among the factors causing Ventricular Fibrillation are past heart attacks, congenital heart diseases, and stimulants such as methamphetamine and heroin.

HOW TO USE AED

1) When a victim suddenly collapses and is not breathing, begin to perform CPR. If an AED is located nearby, bring it over and switch it on.
[4/8]

Place the pads in the correct places, which are the right side of the upper chest and over the rib cage on the left side of the lower chest.

[5/8]

2) Stop performing CPR for a while. The AED will analyse the victim's heart rhythm. Listen to instructions from the AED's audio prompts. If the AED indicates a shock is required, stay clear from the victim and press the "shock" button.

[6/8]

3) CPR should be resumed after voice prompts indicate the heart rhythm has changed. The AED will once again analyse the heart rhythm and instruct a shock to be delivered to the victim.

[7/8]

If an ambulance and the paramedic team have arrived, they will continue performing CPR and AED until the victim arrives at the hospital.
