English daily The Star reported today that Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT) winger Safawi Rasid is doubling his efforts ahead of an important 2019 season that brings AFC Champions League (ACL) football to Larkin. [1/5]
Safawi scored 16 goals and had five assists for the Southern Tigers in all competitions in 2018, and picked up the Best Midfielder, Most Promising Player and Most Valuable Player awards. Safawi told The Star he wasn't going to rest on his laurels.

“I cannot be telling myself that I am the best just because of my exploits last season. Everyone on the roster is good, and as a professional player I have to fight every day for my spot in the team," said Safawi.

“Last season I worked hard to fight for a place and was happy to get lots of games. This season, I have to put in extra work by working on my technique and learning from the senior players in JDT.

"Playing in the ACL is something for JDT. Players will have to take advantage of this opportunity and do their best for the club.”
Safawi also expressed his eagerness to play alongside Aaron Niguez, the brother of Spanish star Saul.
