Lightning strikes can cause death especially from burns, burst blood vessels, cardiac arrest and brain damage.

Here are the precautionary steps to be taken if you are on an open field especially when you're doing any sports activity and you notice lightning and hear thunder in the skies.

Step 1
Immediately proceed into a building or vehicle if you hear thunder. Lightning often strikes on an open field.

Step 2
Avoid activities on an open field for at least 30 minutes from the last time you notice lightning and thunder. Make sure you are still inside a building or vehicle.

Step 3
You're encouraged to install lightning warning systems at playgrounds or stadiums. The device will sound an alarm as a warning.

Step 4
If someone is hit by lightning, the individual must be taken to a safe place first before being taken to hospital to be examined by doctors whether the injury is minimal or not.
