Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT) were listed as the highest ranked Southeast Asian team by FootyRankings, based on points accumulated by clubs in all Asian Football Confederation (AFC) competitions since 2015 and a percentage of Malaysia's member association (MA) points. [1/3]

According FootyRankings, JDT top the regional list with 48.70 points. A bulk of the Southern Tigers' points were obtained in their 2015 AFC Cup winning campaign and the 2016 season, where the Johor club reached the semi-finals.

JDT were ranked 23rd in Asia while Thailand's Buriram United were the next best ASEAN team at No. 28 with 45.24 points. Australian clubs Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC were joint third in Southeast Asia with 35.41 points each.
