JDT'S FIVE GREAT MOMENTS IN 2018 The 2018 season has drawn to a close and Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT) have plenty of reasons to look back at yet another successful year after winning two trophies and a host of Academy honours. [1/12]

These are the top five meaningful moments the Southern Tigers enjoyed in 2018:


1. Fifth straight Malaysia Super League title

Having already broken various records in the previous years, JDT set their eyes on winning a record fifth straight Super League title, surpassing their own record of four consecutive league wins.

JDT delivered in style with a 23-point gap over Perak at the top. JDT also won the season opener Charity Cup.

2. 2019 AFC Champions League qualification HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, the Crown Prince of Johor, wanted the club to be competing among Asia's elite and that was secured by winning the league.

The Southern Tigers will become the first Malaysian side to play in the Champions League group stage next year, rubbing shoulders with top teams from Japan, South Korea, Australia, China and Thailand.

3. Local sensation Safawi Rasid


There is a conception that local players do not score enough goals. Not Safawi Rasid. The 21-year-old winger was the club's top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions.

He assisted five times too and became a torn to defences and goalkeepers. Safawi became a regular in the line-up.

4. Academy success


The JDT Academy won trophies at Under-18, Under-15 and Under-13 in 2018. The JDT Under-15 and Under-18 sides won the 2018 Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Football Tournament.

The Under-12 side reached the quarter-finals while the Under-13 team won the JSSL International Soccer 7's in Singapore. Recently, the Under-13 also won the Minister of Education Cup League after defeating a National Football Development Programme side.

5. Hitting 2 million on Facebook


Already the only Malaysian club to have hit the 1 million mark on Facebook, JDT hit two million on 9th October 2018.

The club is among the most recognisable football brands in Southeast Asia, with only Persib Bandung of Indonesia and Thailand's Muangthong United having a larger following. The closest Malaysian team is Kedah with 606.9k 'likes'.
