Sifat seorang raja yang sering mendampingi serta kerap mengambil berat hal ehwal rakyat sudah menjadi asuhan buat Keluarga Diraja Johor sejak kecil lagi. Tidak hairan apabila setiap bakal Raja Johor yang akan mewarisi takhta kerajaan tidak menunjukkan sebarang reaksi kekok.

Melalui asuhan turun temurun daripada ayahanda dan nenda, DYMM Sultan Johor serta DYAM Tunku Mahkota sering menyantuni rakyat tidak kira di rumah kebajikan, pasar awam, hospital, kampung-kampung, warung-warung, berhenti di tepi jalan, malah semua ini seperti perkara biasa yang dapat dilihat dan dirasakan sendiri oleh rakyat Johor.

Apabila bersama rakyat, DYMM Sultan Johor seringkali mengetepikan protokol rasmi. Perbualan antara raja dan rakyat adakalanya seperti seorang sahabat. Baginda juga pernah bermalam di rumah penduduk kampung serta menjamu selera seperti kehidupan masyarakat kampung terutamanya sewaktu program Kembara Mahkota Johor.

Perkara yang sama turut dapat dilihat kepada peribadi DYAM Mejar Jeneral Tunku Ismail, Tunku Mahkota Johor yang seringkali ‘turun padang’ melihat sendiri permasalahan rakyat selain terlibat secara langsung dengan Kelab Bolasepak Johor Darul Ta’zim, yang begitu ironi dalam membentuk perpaduan Bangsa Johor. Being a ruler who always prioritises and cares about the people’s affairs has been taught to the Johor Royal Family from a young age. It is no surprise that every Johor ruler in line to the throne has never been reserved.

Through a long tradition of education passed down from ancestors, HM Sultan of Johor and HRH Crown Prince of Johor have always helped the people whether at welfare homes, public markets, hospitals, villages, stalls, or roadside shops as it is all part of the norms that can be observed and felt by the Johor people.

When with the people, HM Sultan of Johor often ignores official protocols. Conversations between the ruler and the people are like between friends. His Majesty has also overnighted at villagers’ homes and dined like ordinary people especially during the Kembara Mahkota Johor programme.
