The 2018 Anugerah Bolasepak Kebangsaan (National Football Awards) takes place in Kuala Lumpur tonight. Other JDT players such as Farizal Marlias, S. Kunanlan, Ahmad Hazwan Bakri, Gonzalo Cabrera and Hariss Harun have been nominated for other categories.

Safawi has been nominated for the Best Midfielder and Most Promising Youngster categories, thus putting him in contention for the prized MVP award. [3/5]

Still only 21 years old, Safawi scored 16 goals in all competitions in JDT colours and another scored seven for the Malaysia Under-23 side. [4/5]
