Acara gilang gemilang perlumbaan Johore Grand Prix telah mendapat kerjasama penganjuran daripada Persatuan lumba kereta dari Singapura. Presidennya Francis Baruch berpendapat litar di Johor Bahru antara yang terbaik selain litar di Hong Kong, Macau, Singapura, Jepun dan Manila. Perlumbaan grand prix tersebut turut membabitkan motosikal, kereta vintaj, sports, saloon dan tourers.
Kategori yang dipertandingkan adalah motosikal serendah 125cc hingga 275cc dan kereta dari 1100cc hingga 4500cc supercharged. Anggaran seramai 10,000 orang penonton hadir menyaksikan perlumbaan tersebut yang membabitkan pelumba dari Singapura, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Indonesia, Hong Kong, Jepun dan Thailand selain pelumba tempatan.
Lebih menarik, Sultan Sir Ismail dan Sultan Iskandar sendiri pernah menyertai dan menjuarai perlumbaan. Kehadiran penonton sepertimana dilaporkan oleh surat khabar pada tahun 1968 adalah seramai 20,000 orang dan ia turut disiarkan secara langsung oleh badan penyiaran rasmi Singapura. The glorious racing event of the Johore Grand Prix received a sponsorship collaboration from a car racing association in Singapore. The president, Francis Baruch, felt that the Johor Bahru circuit was among the best alongside the ones in Hong Kong, Macau, SIngapore, Japan and Manila. The Grand Prix also involved motorcycles, vintage cars, sports cars, saloons and tourers.
The categories being competed were motorcyles from as low as 125cc to 275cc and cars from 1100cc to 4500cc supercharged. An estimate of 10,000 spectators watched the races involving racers from Singapore, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand besides local racers.
Interestingly, Sultan Sir Ibrahim and Sultan Iskandar also participated and won. The crowd attendance as reported in newspapers in 1968 was 20,000 people and it was also watched live by Singapore's official broadcasting agency. Allah Peliharakan Sultan.
