FAKTA MENARIK | SEJARAH NEGERI JOHOR | PERLUMBAAN KERETA DAN MOTOSIKAL DI NEGERI JOHOR - BAHAGIAN SATU
Johore International Grand Prix pertama kali diadakan seawal tahun 1910 iaitu melibatkan perlumbaan motosikal. Perlumbaan kereta pula dimulakan dalam tahun 1940an berserta motosikal. Kali terakhir grand prix ini diadakan pada tahun 1968 kerana negara menghadapi darurat dan disambung semula pada awal tahun 70an sebelum berhenti beberapa tahun kemudian. Johore Grand Prix merupakan perlumbaan antarabangsa yang pertama dan satu-satunya di Malaya ketika itu, menggunakan litar dalam bandar dan mendapat jolokan “Monte Carlo Grand Prix of Asia”.
Berdasarkan rekod yang dilaporkan media, perlumbaan permotoran antarabangsa di Johor merupakan yang pertama di Malaya dan Asia Tenggara. Perlumbaan tersebut diadakan selama tiga hari termasuk hari berlatih, ujian masa dan hari perlumbaan.
Perlumbaan Johore Grand Prix diadakan di litar dalam bandar sepanjang 2.2 batu sebanyak 70 pusingan (145 batu) melalui Jalan Ibrahim, Jalan Tai Heng, Jalan Skudai, Gertak Merah dan Ayer Molek, berakhir di garisan penamat di hadapan Pejabat Pos Besar Johor Bahru.
Penyertaan setiap tahun mendapat sambutan hangat dari pelbagai negara serantau Asia Tenggara dan menggunakan pelbagai jenama kereta seperti Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Austin, Fiat, dan pelbagai lagi jenama terkenal.
Hasil kutipan jualan tiket Johore Grand Prix disalurkan kepada tabung kebajikan khas seluruh negeri Johor. Rentetan sejarah berpuluh tahun itu, pada tahun 1989 Johor menganjurkan International Formula 3 Grand Prix di litar antarabangsa Pasir Gudang dan julung kali diadakan di Malaysia.

The Johore International Grand Prix was first held in 1910 involving motorcycles. Car racing only started in the 1940s alongside motorcycle racing. The Grand Prix was held continuously until 1968 due to the country facing an insurgency and only resumed in the early 70s before stopping several years later. The Johore Grand Prix was the first and only international race in Malaya at that time, using a city circuit and being known as the Monte Carlo Grand Prix of Asia.
Based on records reported by the media, the international motorcycle race in Johor was the first in Malaya and Southeast Asia. The race was held for three days, including training day, testing day and racing day.
The Johore Grand Prix was held on a 2.2 mile circuit in the city for 70 rounds (145 miles), going through Jalan Ibrahim, Jalan Tai Heng, Jalan Skudai, Gertak Merah and Ayer Molek before ending at the finish line in front of the Johor Bahru Post Office.
It was well received every year with participations from various countries in Southeast Asia and featuring many car brands like Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Austin, Fiat and other well-known brands.
All ticket proceeds from the Johore Grand Prix went to dedicated welfare funds around Johor. Many years later, in 1989, Johor hosted the International Formula 3 Grand Prix on an international circuit in Pasir Gudang and it was held for the first time in Malaysia.
