Life after football with JDT

Once players for Johor, there are several that now serve Johor Darul Ta'zim FC in various capacities ranging from management and coaching to scouting.

HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim has shown a liking towards hiring those who have served Johor football in the past to keep them close to the club. This also creates a sense of belonging at the club.

There is a special emotion attached to this and some of these former players still get stopped by fans for photographs.

Legends of Johor football Alistair Edwards and Ervin Boban have been entrusted in key roles.

Edwards is currently Technical Director after previously serving as Sports Director while Ervin Boban was recently promoted to the JDT II hot seat after being in charge of the Under-21 JDT II side.

Luciano Figueroa is another high profile ex-player serving the club today. The former Argentina international returned to JDT in an ambassador role in 2017, had a short return as a player and is now the main man in the dugout.

Figueroa, who was integral in the Southern Tigers 2015 AFC Cup win, was installed as JDT manager and head coach in August while another former Johor player Hamzani Omar is one of the two assistants with the senior team.

Among the other former players still with the club are JDT III assistant Salehan Mat Som, Nazri Yunos and Yurisham Yusof with the JDT-Valencia academy, Idris Karim and Nasir Yusof in the scouting department and Farouk Yahya, who is the head of the marshals.

There are also plans to send JDT II captain Shakir Shaari to obtain his coaching badges so he could eventually assist Boban at JDT II. Luaskan Kuasamu Johor.
